240 years ago, a small gathering of men came together to declare the birth of a new nation. It was to be a nation where all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
This weekend, let us remember the sacrifices of those men, and the thousands more who died to secure our independence. Our victory then was not guaranteed, just as a secure future for our children is not guaranteed today.
George Washington claimed that America’s victory in the Revolutionary War was little short of a standing miracle. We as a people cannot sit idly by and let that miracle go to waste.
